Remember that stupid, old, chauvinistic phrase ‘ladki ki naa main haan hoti hai‘ (a girl’s no means yes)? Well, it’s time to trash that, and all other regressive thoughts along with it. Why? Because it is rubbish. Utterly nonsensical, and projects women as having bad communication skills. When a woman says something, she pretty well means it. When a woman says she wants to eat bread, is she saying she wants to eat rice? Nope. She very well means bread. But as is apparent from the number of teasing, molestation and rape cases, understanding consent or accepting denial is something a lot of men struggle with. Which is funny, because no means no. And it is a very simple thing to understand. No means no. Yes means yes. No does not mean yes. Yes does not mean no. See, it’s that simple.
I get it, sometimes it can get a little confusing. I mean you have a girl saying something, but you process it otherwise, thanks to conditioning and centuries of brain-washing about how women are very confusing. To make matters simpler, we have kids, little children explaining what a girl means when she says no. The message here is simple — when a girl says no, she means no. Little children understand it, so you definitely can. There’s nothing to read between the lines here, the message is loud and clear. No definitely and most positively means NO.
